Mindful gift giving: Coffee date with Eva from @whatevaloves
by Lena Severin
This crazy year is coming to an end. And somehow much faster than expected. It feels like you've blinked once and it's already December again. It's high time to slow down this fast-paced year a little. We want to be particularly mindful of ourselves and our loved ones this year. We want to be attentive and enjoy being together wherever possible. We want to slow down, calm down a bit, take care of ourselves and give something back to the important people in our lives. We want to give mindful gifts this year. What does that mean? You can and should think about that individually.
For me, “mindful giving” means above all giving the gift of time, relaxation and well-being. Because in the last two years in particular, I had the feeling that this was exactly what so many people around me were neglecting. What does it mean to you?
I invited our brand ambassador Eva from @whatevaloves for a relaxed Advent talk and asked her over a cup of coffee how she spends the pre-Christmas period, what "mindful gift-giving" means to her and what she will surprise her loved ones with this year. First of all, a big thank you to Eva for taking the time to tell you and me more about her plans for Christmas.
1. Eva, what does “mindful giving” mean to you?
Often, gifts are chosen at random, not enough thought is given to them because there is not enough time or the person receiving the gift does not express a wish. I have to admit that I do not have any great material desires and when asked "What do you want?" I usually answer "nothing". So my husband and I only give each other time, because as we all know, time is always in short supply. I really try to only give my family things that they either really want, or that they can use or, even better, consume. Of course, this does not always work with children in the household, but even then I avoid buying unnecessary things.
2. How do you spend the pre-Christmas period? Do you take time for yourself and give yourself special attention? Or do you find it difficult not to be overwhelmed by the stress of Christmas?
I find it quite difficult to find time for myself in the midst of Christmas stress. The to-do list is usually endless and so December is often the most stressful month of all.
This year, however, I have decided to take on fewer orders in December and to be offline for at least one day. I love the Advent season, which is actually meant to give you time to reflect and slow down.
So let’s see if it works this year and if at the end I can say “That was relaxing”.
3. What is your favorite gift to give?
So I like to give my husband the gift of time together, even if that's not always easy to do with two children. In recent years we've always given each other a weekend in a nice hotel, just the two of us.
Otherwise, as I said, I like to give away things that can be used up. This includes cosmetics or something culinary. Gift vouchers are also popular with many people. I don't like giving them away, though, I find them too impersonal. Incidentally, we give our grandparents a photo calendar or photo book every year.
4. Which Christmas set did you choose and who will you give it to?
I chose the Morning Fresh Set with cleansing oil, hyaluronic day cream, niacinamide serum and rose water in full sizes.
I'm going to give it to my sister because she works a lot, has two small children and could really use a little self-care. She rarely treats herself to good cosmetics, so it's the perfect gift and you can't go wrong with JUNGLÜCK care products because they really are suitable for everyone.
5. What does it mean to you to give the gift of care?
As I said, I love giving gifts of things that can be used and enjoyed every day.
Useful things that won't be forgotten in the closet or left to gather dust in the corner. Even if you probably don't have much time for an extensive day of wellness in your everyday life, you're sure to have a quick moment with the JUNGLÜCK care routine.
