A little glimpse behind the scenes – our production
by Marie Prötzsch
We visited our production
Every day we show you our products, describe the ingredients and effects, and give you tips on how to use them. But what does it actually look like behind the scenes? You've asked for more insight into production and the procurement of raw materials this year. That's why I'm taking you with me today and giving you a little insight into our production. More specifically, into the bottling of baby care products, which we visited last summer. Together with founder Benedikt and Supply Chain and Operations Manager Ann-Kathrin, we inspected the machines and filling systems and were given a tour of the company. Of course, under the strictest hygiene regulations - from protective suits and hair caps to face masks. Especially for me as a social media manager, it was super exciting to be there behind the scenes and watch how the product developers and production employees discuss things using technical vocabulary. I've recorded my insights for you to share with you.
We produce in Germany
As you know, we produce all of our products in Germany. However, we source some of the raw materials from around the world, as of course not all of them grow here in Germany. For example, aloe vera from controlled organic cultivation in Mexico. For a better and more transparent insight, we have listed the respective ingredients plus plain text for each product in the shop. There you will also find the exact organic and natural proportion of the ingredients. For us, however, it is still a top priority to source our raw materials from traceable and as sustainable as possible sources and then manufacture our products in Germany . For our rose water, for example, we use the Damask rose from controlled organic cultivation in Bulgaria.
We care about our raw materials
Our core criteria when deciding on the procurement of raw materials are their sustainability and certification. In other words, we look for sustainable production and processing of the raw materials. In our baby line, we have also made sure that we do not use any raw materials that are made on the basis of palm oil. The solid products, the hyaluronic night cream, the body lotion, the AHA peeling, the aloe vera gel and the aloe vera spray as well as the rose water are also palm oil-free. For the other products, we use RSPO-certified palm oil. This palm oil certificate was launched by the WWF in 2011 to make palm oil production more sustainable. RSPO stands for “Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil.” You can still find this palm oil in some of our products because it is omnipresent on the raw materials market and at the beginning we were very dependent on certain raw materials being available in certain quantities. However, we are gradually changing the products in question. Incidentally, other oils are not per se better than palm oil. Because they are less productive than the oil palm. The problem is rather the amount of vegetable oil that is generally used. This and the adverse cultivation conditions have given palm oil a particularly bad reputation.
We get our own laboratory
But back to production. In production, all the ingredients come together and are mixed. In the pictures you can see the filling of the baby products. The printed glass bottles go through the filling process and are packed in folding boxes and stacked on pallets. A small portion of the filled products then make their way back to our laboratory for final approval. Incidentally, we can share some exciting news with you in the coming months. We are currently building our own laboratory together with our product developer Monika. This means that we will soon have the opportunity to give you even more insights into the development, to take you along and to let you test products yourself. We are really excited to be able to integrate you even more and let you take part in product development.
In the final step, the products make their way to our warehouse, from where they then make their way to your home.
More insights to follow! Until then, we will of course answer all your questions in the comments under the article, by email or directly via social media @Junglück .
