The difference between women's and men's skin

by Leonie Poppe

Hey, where's the men's skin care set? Ha, caught! We've taken it out of the range. And now all the men are like: Why?
We like to keep everything nice and simple, so our reasoning is also very simple: Because all of our products and all of our sets can be used by men as well as women.

[Mr]

KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE!

It is true that there are differences in the structure of men's and women's skin. Nevertheless, our products always do their best, regardless of who is in the skin they are currently caring for. The basic needs and requirements of the skin of men and women vary to a greater or lesser extent. But that is also the case with the needs of different skin types. So: It is important that you know your skin type and what your skin needs to look healthy and radiant - whether male or female.

HORMONES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Hormones play a decisive role in the constitution of our skin. Whether it is that we are prone to blemishes or whether the elasticity of our tissue decreases sooner or later (sometimes sooner than later, unfortunately *sigh*). The hormone testosterone plays an important role not only for men, but also for women. The presence of testosterone - and at the same time the absence of it - has a strong effect on the appearance of our skin.

[Mr]

LIKE A THICK SKIN?

Generally, men have higher testosterone levels and therefore skin that is 15 to 20% thicker than women. They have a higher proportion of collagen and are therefore lucky enough to be blessed with greater elasticity and more robust skin. Their skin support structure is therefore more stable. But: The other side of the coin is a higher number of sebaceous glands and therefore oilier skin. Men are therefore more prone to blemishes. In addition to the skin, hormones also affect hair. Men's skin can be affected by frequent shaving of the face and therefore requires a lot of attention. You probably know this.

TYPICAL SKIN TYPE

To sum up: Men's and women's skin basically has exactly the same needs. That's why it makes little sense to sell different products to men. However, men's skin tends to have special needs. But at the end of the day, it's the skin type that counts. Because every person has their own individual skin type and associated individual requirements when it comes to care.

HEY BIG MOISTURIZER

In my circle of friends, the topic of skin care is becoming increasingly important and discussed in detail among men. The awareness that men's skin also has certain needs and requires attention is therefore growing. As a pharmacist, I am often asked about care for typical men's skin. I then like to recommend products that do one thing above all: provide moisture. Rich creams are often a bit "too much" - especially in younger years - due to the high sebum production of male skin. Serums with hyaluronic acid, however, are particularly good. The junglück hyaluronic concentrate would therefore be a great companion that men can use in their care routine.

SMOOTH THING

Depending on your needs, I also recommend a fruit acid peeling 2-3 times a week. It is a wonderful addition to moisturizers and can also bring many benefits to men. An AHA peeling is particularly suitable for blemishes or to combat oily shine on the face. The liquid combination of alpha hydroxy acids and salicylic acid gives the skin a noticeably new and soft feel. It is important for you men: never apply the peeling to irritated skin immediately after shaving. It burns! This is because wet shaving removes the top layer of skin. This makes proper care afterward all the more important.

FOR SUNNY BOYS

If you have dry patches of skin, you can safely use a richer day or night cream. As I said, it all depends on the individual's skin type and whether the skin can tolerate a little more care, especially in winter. Another very important point is UV protection. I tell all my customers, male and female, that sun protection is a must. And yes, even in the grey season. The radiation that affects the skin is much lower than in midsummer, but especially when products such as retinal cream , AHA peeling or vitamin C serum are used, I definitely recommend a day cream with UV protection.

SMELLS LIKE UNISEX SPIRIT

By the way: We also consider fragrances, whether they are natural or synthetic, to be unnecessary additives. Essential oils in particular can have a high irritating potential. We want to avoid that at all costs. So don't worry - you won't smell floral or fruity. Just fresh and well-groomed. So men: Ready, set, go for your skincare!

Feel free to write me your thoughts and feedback on the topic. I look forward to hearing from you!

junglücksgefühle for everyone
