Fantastic or fake - the beauty trend rose water.

by Leonie Poppe

It seems like there's a new beauty trend every year . An oil, an active ingredient or a little water that seems to solve every beauty problem and when used turns you into the next Angelina Jolie. After all, she uses this "insider tip" too - just look at her! Yes, sometimes it's difficult to say what is really as fantastic as it sounds and what is just fake.

But they do exist. The products that can really help. And here it can be different for everyone. Trusting blanket miracle cures is of course always a bit dangerous. Because what works for one person is not necessarily the right thing for you. But not every beauty trend becomes a myth, it stays. And for one simple reason: because it works.

And - tada! - rose water is one of them. A "trend" that started a few years ago and looks back on several hundred years of history. From my own experience and the response from everyone around me, I can confirm that this is not just talk.

However, there are some voices that speak against it. They express concerns. Because not all rose water is the same. And there are a few things that you should know and be aware of.

[Mr]

Because what is rose water actually?

Rose water is a hydrolate. This means that it is produced during the production of essential oils through what is known as steam distillation. One kilogram of freshly picked rose petals (in our case the Damask rose) are distilled into one kilogram of water. The resulting steam condenses on a cooler and becomes liquid again. The result: a pure distillate (hydrolate) without any additives. In this case, the non-volatile phase then produces the rose oil and contains the fat-soluble ingredients of the rose.

A real win-win situation, because this manufacturing process does not require any solvents and produces almost no waste products. Rose oil and rose water are used equally. And the content of essential oils in rose water is usually negligible. This means that rose water is a super mild alternative to rose oil, especially for sensitive skin. You can find out more about the properties of rose water below.

Rose water is not the same as rose water

If the rose hydrosol has been distilled several times and no longer contains any essential oils , it is also more sensitive to germs and must be preserved. If a rose water still contains essential oils in significant concentrations due to insufficient distillation, then these must also be listed in the INCIs. Otherwise the product cannot be placed on the market. If no essential oils are listed, then the proportion is so small that it is not sufficient for preservation.

As a result, there are different types of rose water. Some contain essential oils, others that are preserved, and others that do not contain either but must be used up quickly. So not all rose water is the same! As we know, however, essential oils have a high allergy potential. And preservatives such as alcohol are not exactly good for our skin either. It's good that we at junglück have found a solution to these concerns.

The junglück rose water

As already mentioned, our rose water is made from Damascus roses - medicinal plant of the year 2013. They are grown in the famous Valley of Roses in Bulgaria. Certified organic, of course! After Turkey, Bulgaria is the second largest exporter of rose products in the world. Centuries-old knowledge combined with perfect geographical and climatic conditions. It doesn't get much better than that!

Due to the multiple distillation, junglück rose water contains no essential oils. This is how we get a well-tolerated, natural and vegan organic rose water bottled in glass.

To ensure the best shelf life, it is best to store the rose water in a cool, dark place.

But how does rose water work?

Even if there are voices who say that rose hydrosol has a rather low content of the important ingredients, I am of the opinion that the many positive experiences that go back many years speak for themselves. Because perhaps it is precisely this concentration of valuable antioxidants, vitamins (B and C), tannins and pectins that make up the wonderful and at the same time mild properties of rose water. And for my skin, that of my friends and also that of many customers, rose water seems to be just right.

I don't want to miss the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing effects of the spray in my daily routine. Romy will also be releasing a podcast episode on the subject in the near future. She is also totally enthusiastic about the calming and regulating effects of the all-rounder.

[Mr]

How do I integrate rose water into my daily routine?

Applications

01 Versatile facial care

The rose hydrolate is particularly suitable as a facial toner after cleansing . It regulates the pH value of the skin and prepares it perfectly for the following care. This allows your skin to absorb further nutrients well. To do this, spray the rose water directly onto your skin or soak a cotton pad in it . Gently stroke your face with the pad. This will remove any remaining make-up residue, dirt and deposits and soothe your skin at the same time.

Benefits for every skin type!

The tannins work against inflammation and are ideal for impure skin. This prevents the formation of new spots and reduces acne scars at the same time. Pectins help to bind water. Dry skin will appreciate the extra portion of moisture. Antioxidants such as vitamin C protect your skin from free radicals and environmental influences. This of course puts a big dent in skin aging! This means that rose water is also ideal for mature skin . And even very sensitive skin (including those with couperose, rosacea and neurodermatitis) can be soothed thanks to rose water.
The spray is also recommended for fixing and refreshing make-up .

[Mr]

Our dear Sophia's tip: " When my eyes feel tired, I sometimes use refreshing eye compresses. I soak a washcloth in the junglück rose water and place it on my eyes for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, the skin around my eyes feels fresh and soft. Swelling around the eyes goes down and I can use the time for myself and relax."

Bye, bye puffy eyes!

02 From top to bottom please – body care with rose water!

Not only on your face, but also on other parts of your body (upper arms, décolleté, back) your skin can be irritated and prone to redness. A small spray of cooling rose water (stored in the fridge) can quickly provide relief , reduce redness and significantly relax your skin. Even after shaving!

03 Shine for the hair and relief for demanding scalp

To give your hair a great shine , spray the wonderfully scented spray into your towel-dried hair. For soft lengths and healthy ends - the perfect leave-in conditioner.

Or do you have an itchy and irritated scalp? Maybe you also suffer from dandruff? Thanks to the balanced active ingredient composition of the rose, the cell renewal of your skin is stimulated. The production of fat is regulated without drying out and irritated scalp is noticeably balanced.

04 Aromatherapy

In addition to the beauty and skin benefits of rose water, I can't forget to mention one thing: the great scent! I have to admit that I'm not really a big fan of rose scent. It's always been too heavy and too sweet for me. But strangely enough, rose water is different, on the contrary: it's fresh, super light and almost fruity. I'm a real fan now.

In aromatherapy, the rose is primarily used to relax and calm the body and mind . It is also used to treat headaches and sleep disorders .

And finally, as you may already know, rose water is now an indispensable ingredient in cooking . Indian, oriental and even French specialties rely on the unmistakable aroma of this wonderful flower.

See for yourself. Maybe rose water will be your new beauty favorite! Feel free to write to me about your experiences. I look forward to hearing from you!

Here's to rosy times and even rosier skin. :)

Your Leonie
