BEAUTY TOOLS – 5 DOS AND DON'TS WITH SKINCARE HELPERS

by JUNGLÜCK Redaktion

Care tools such as facial brushes or needle rollers are very trendy. Here you can find out what these beauty helpers can do and what you should pay attention to when using them.

  1. Facial brushes – peeling, cleansing and massage in one
  2. Microneedling with the needle roller
  3. Pore vacuum – deep cleansing of the pores?
  4. Facial roller with jade or rose quartz
  5. Optimize skin care – tips for your skin care routine

1. Facial brushes – peeling, cleansing and massage in one

Whether electric or mechanical – facial brushes are available in many different designs. Thanks to the fine bristles, they clean the skin thoroughly and the massage effect improves microcirculation in the skin. At the same time, flakes are removed.
However, this beauty tool is not suitable for every skin type. For very sensitive skin, firm plastic bristles can be too coarse. You don't want to do without your favorite facial cleansing tool? Facial brushes with soft silicone nubs or extra soft facial brushes are gentler on the skin. Simply apply a little cleansing oil and then gently move it in circular motions over your face.

Do: Make sure to only use gentle pressure and circular movements to glide the brush over the skin. Our skincare expert Michael recommends using facial brushes with firm plastic bristles as a mechanical peeling only every two weeks. To give your skin a boost or to gently remove dead skin, peelings that do not involve mechanical irritation are ideal.

Our fruit acid peelings, the AHA and BHA peelings, are the gentle alternatives to mechanical helpers and can even be used daily if required. They gently remove dead skin and work deep into the skin against blackheads. However, if you have skin diseases, you should consult your dermatologist first. You can find out which fruit acid peeling is best for your skin in this article .

Don't: Please do not use facial brushes with firm bristles with pressure. Mechanical peelings should also be avoided if you have acne, in order to avoid smear infections caused by pus leaking out or additional irritation to the already stressed skin. Also be careful if you have rosacea or couperose.

2. Microneedling with the needle roller

Kim Kardashian is not entirely uninvolved in the hype surrounding the spikiest of all beauty trends - microneedling. When she presented the results of the so-called vampire lift on Instagram a few years ago, her bloody face initially caused a moment of shock. During professional microneedling, small injuries are inflicted on the skin using an electric handpiece fitted with many small surgical steel needles. The micro-injuries stimulate the skin's regeneration process and are also said to stimulate collagen production in the skin.

DIY needle rollers for microneedling at home are less effective than medical microneedling because the needles do not penetrate the skin as deeply. Our cosmetic expert Michael sees another problem with needle rollers for home use: "Micro-injuries should be carried out by trained professionals; DIY use without gloves and sufficiently sterile procedures risks contamination and contamination of the tools." And germs in the skin are not a good idea. Therefore: disinfect needle rollers thoroughly before and after each use or go straight to an expert.

Do: If you have insensitive skin, gently roll it over your face as per the instructions. Clean the needle roller thoroughly before and after DIY microneedling and only use it on skin that has been cleansed just as thoroughly.

Don't: Please do not "roll" over your face with strong pressure. If you have rosacea, acne or other skin conditions, it is better to just watch microneedling videos on the Internet.

3. Pore vacuum – deep cleansing of the pores?

This beauty tool was hard to ignore on Instagram: pore vacuum. Say what?! The pore vacuum is designed to free the pores of sebum and flakes like a small vacuum cleaner and thus prevent blackheads or pimples from forming. The nozzle creates a vacuum, similar to microdermabrasion, but without the peeling granules that shine onto the skin. Anyone who is prone to blackheads should dream of having a device like this.

But: Pore vacuums should be used with extreme caution, as the risk of injury is very high. The vacuum irritates the skin and can even cause bruising. If you have skin conditions such as acne or rosacea, it is better to stay away from pore vacuums. The symptoms could get worse. Pimples could empty and the purulent contents could spread over the skin, causing new inflammation. So not at all what you actually wanted to achieve. Our conclusion: It is better to use gentler and more skin-friendly methods!

For impure skin, we recommend our mild BHA peeling. The 2% salicylic acid penetrates the pores and gently cleanses them from the inside. At the same time, the BHA peeling has a calming, anti-inflammatory effect and provides moisture and freshness thanks to organic aloe vera.

Would you still like to give the pore vacuum a try? Then try it on the lowest setting and be particularly careful when using it on less sensitive areas of the face, such as the chin and forehead. However, we would like to recommend a skin scrubber with ultrasound as a more skin-friendly alternative. These are much more tolerable and much safer for use at home.

4. Facial roller with jade or rose quartz

They have also taken the beauty sphere by storm - facial rollers with jade or rose quartz. After I took a rather critical look at the beauty tools, there is now a big YES! Because you can safely use a facial roller with jade or rose quartz - if your skin is not hypersensitive and reacts to every touch with redness.

The cooling effect of the facial roller and the gentle massage stimulate microcirculation in the finest blood vessels in the skin, which improves blood flow to the cells and thus supplies them with nutrients and oxygen. It has not been proven whether they improve the absorption of cosmetics. What is certain, however, is that most people find the facial roller pleasant on the skin and this can increase their well-being.

Care expert Michael knows: “Beauty rollers can stimulate the lymph flow and, through targeted massage techniques, similar to lymphatic drainage, help lymph accumulations in the nasolabial area or in the case of puffy eyes to drain more quickly in the morning and you look awake more quickly.”

Do: Guide the facial roller from the middle of the face outwards to the ear and from the chin down the neck towards the décolleté. After cleansing, you can gently massage in your facial care with the roller. To do this, put some of your favorite serum - for example our hyaluronic concentrate or the vitamin C serum - on the skin and gently move the roller over the skin. Only use the beauty roller on clean skin and clean the roller thoroughly after each use.

My tip: Make the facial massage with the facial roller a little ritual. Maybe with a nice scented candle, with positive affirmations that you say to yourself silently or with conscious breathing. In this way, you can turn the care routine into a relaxing me-time and actively contribute to the reduction of stress hormones that can lead to inflammation in the body and also affect the skin if their level is permanently too high.

Don't: As with all beauty tools, less is more when it comes to facial rollers. Make sure you don't apply too much pressure when massaging the skin. The beauty roller also glides better over the skin if you have applied skin care products beforehand.

5. Optimize skin care – tips for your skin care routine

The effectiveness of many beauty tools is not proven, and some can irritate sensitive skin. In my opinion, it makes sense to optimize other areas of your beauty routine - skin care, care habits and also your personal lifestyle.

Towels, washcloths, makeup removal pads: hygiene is king! Bacteria love to thrive on textiles. Therefore: change towels at least twice a week, use a separate towel for your face. Always gently pat your face dry, never rub. Washcloths and fabric makeup removal pads should be washed after use. If you have acne, change your pillow more often too.

Makeup wipes are not only a burden on the environment, they can also harm your skin because some contain potentially skin-irritating ingredients such as fragrances or chemical preservatives. You can read why we avoid these here https://junglueck.de/blogs/wissen/parabene-und-synthetische-konservierungsstoffe-in-der-kosmetik . Makeup wipes also produce a lot of unnecessary waste. If you want to clean your skin thoroughly but gently, we recommend our cleansing oil, which is suitable for all skin types - even for impure skin, yay! Simply massage in and gently remove with a damp washcloth or textile makeup removal pad et voilà: deep cleansing and gentle peeling effect in one, without any chemicals or scratchy bristles.

Showering and bathing: For most of us, a daily shower is as important as morning coffee. However, dermatologists recommend not showering every day and instead washing more often. Meow, don't feel like it? I understand! If you need a daily shower, only clean your armpits and intimate area with a mild product like our shower gel with mild sugar-based surfactants. To avoid disturbing the skin's protective acid mantle, do not shower or bathe in water that is too hot. The water temperature should be a maximum of 38 degrees. Bathers should get out of the tub after about 15 minutes. A dash of nourishing organic almond oil in the bath water protects and cares for your skin while you splash around.

Acute pimples: Blackheads can be treated wonderfully with our AHA peeling and BHA peeling, as they remove scales and also gently but effectively tackle the sebum in the pores. But what about acute pimples? As hard as it can be sometimes, please keep your hands off the red glowing thing. Otherwise it may turn into a red glowing super-thing that can also leave behind pimple marks that take months to disappear. Rough squeezing can spread the pus in the tissue and cause inflammation deep in the skin. Germs can also get into the skin via your fingers. Make sure you cleanse your skin gently in the morning and evening - for example with our cleansing oil and the soothing and anti-inflammatory rose water - and dab pimples with a little BHA peeling that stays on the skin overnight. Regularly cleansing the skin with a beautician can improve the complexion.

Do not touch your face - your fingers can transfer bacteria to the skin, which can cause inflammation. If you also scratch areas with deposits, micro-injuries can occur that can become infected. You should also disinfect your smartphone every day, as countless pathogens collect on the display.

Avoid stress and eat healthily: Numerous studies show that chronic stress can lead to a number of health problems. Your skin also suffers when your soul is under too much pressure. If stress hormones are not broken down because there is not enough relaxation, the stress hormone level in the blood remains permanently high and chronic inflammation in the body can develop. For this reason, skin diseases such as neurodermatitis and acne should also be treated holistically and not just symptomatically. This holistic approach includes a healthy diet with lots of green leafy vegetables, fiber, whole grain products and good omega-3 fatty acids as well as stress-reducing exercises such as yoga, meditation or relaxed walks through the forest. This has also been proven: the parasympathetic nerve responsible for relaxation is activated in the forest and helps to break down stress hormones. So diving into the countryside more often is much more than just a nice trip. Your skin will be happy too!

Conclusion – beautiful skin, a complete package

I look at my health and therefore also that of my skin from a more holistic perspective – pure and well-tolerated cosmetics, a balanced and anti-inflammatory diet, healthy food for my mind, relaxation exercises and plenty of exercise in nature.

Beauty tools like facial brushes or rollers are nice gimmicks in the bathroom, I have a few myself. Unfortunately, none of these tools gave me the super glow I was hoping for. Nevertheless, I like to incorporate them into my beauty routine from time to time. Simply because it's fun to breathe new life into your daily routine - and skin care should also bring joy. However, my skin has clearly shown me when I've asked too much of it and that scrubbing too roughly really gets on its nerves.

Maybe I can inspire you to look at your skin care from such a comprehensive perspective and to view your daily beauty ritual as a puzzle, which includes gentle care tailored to your skin type as well as a beauty boost from within through a healthy diet and good nourishment for your mind.

And if a pimple does appear: treat it locally and stay calm. In the case of severe or chronic skin problems, a dermatologist and perhaps also a nutritional consultant should always be involved, because the intestines and skin are closely connected.

With that in mind: have a good time!
