The principle of JUNGLÜCK – individual skin care through layering
Not all skin care is the same. There are many products on the cosmetics market that, at least according to our standards, should not be used on the skin at all - even some that can be really harmful in the long term. What's more, it can be very confusing and complicated to find out exactly what your skin needs in terms of care. Even if you know your skin type and what your skin needs, you are faced with a huge selection and still don't know exactly what you can use, when, how and where.
Skin care is not easy with all the offers and confusing information. That's why we have made it our goal to make the whole topic as simple as possible, to educate you about your skin, ingredients and product applications - not with complex technical jargon and funny-sounding INCI names, but with understandable plain text. This article is intended to help you get to know the cornerstones of our care principle: layering & combining products.
The rule of thumb: from thin to thick.
What exactly does that mean? There are hydrophilic (water-loving) products. Examples of these are light creams, serums, gels and lotions. These are contrasted with lipophilic (fat-loving) products. They obviously have a fatty base. These include oils, ointments and creams that have a very low water content. If you "mix" these two types of products on your skin at the same time, two phases will settle and an unsightly crumbly effect can occur. You will find out how to avoid this in a moment.
The next fundamental point that we unfortunately often lack in everyday life is time. Apply lots of very thin layers, work the care product in slowly and carefully and give it enough time to take effect. This can create a bit of a rush in the morning or dampen your motivation for a full facial routine. With our practical tips, we show you how to save time and still care for your skin thoroughly without much effort.
Our principle: 5 steps of layering
The original method of layering comes from Asia. It is used to use several products with a specific effect in order to have skin care that is as individually tailored as possible. We thought about which needs we could address with our products and how we could best divide them into the individual steps. This is how we came up with our 5 steps: Cleanse, clarify, work, care and protect. The great thing about this layering principle is that it is super individual and you don't have to do all 5 steps for your personal routine if you don't have much time. You will find out exactly what the individual steps involve and how you can use them to create your own care routine in the next sections.
1. Layering step: Clean
A thorough but gentle cleansing that does not strip the skin of its lipids and moisture is the basis of any good skin care. In general, you should make sure that you do not use products with drying alcohol or aggressive surfactants in this step. These can swell up your skin barrier, causing your skin to lose its valuable fats and stored moisture more quickly. Your skin is then busy rebuilding this protective layer in order to continue to successfully fend off germs, bacteria and viruses. Our cleansing products, such as cleansing milk, cleansing oil or gel, contain no irritating substances, aggressive surfactants or drying alcohols. Depending on your preference, you will find the right product for your skin here. Either way: your skin will remain moisturized, no matter which product you use.
Cleansing oil: Ideal if you want to remove makeup or sunscreen from your skin. To be on the safe side, use the double cleansing method: Simply wash the day's dirt from your face twice with the cleansing oil or in the second "wash cycle" with the cleansing gel or milk. Due to its composition of seven valuable oils, the cleansing oil is perfect for dry, intensive care skin.
Cleansing gel: The lightest and oil-free version of our cleansing products. Ideal for gentle cleansing after removing make-up or for oily or combination skin in the morning.
Cleansing milk: Super mild, but super thorough. You can gently massage the cleansing milk in with a cotton cloth or simply with your hands and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. It is suitable for all skin types and is also a good aid for removing makeup residue.
2. Layering step: Clarify
In other words: facial toner! With the PHA, calendula or zinc facial toner, you can easily and simply supply your skin with active ingredients that suit its individual needs in this step. If you want to lightly cleanse it and mainly refresh it, use the aloe vera spray or rose water.3. Layering step: Working
This is where the hydrophilic products mentioned above come into play - to repeat: this is the water-loving, water-based care. In this category we have a really wide selection for every skin need. The nice thing here is that you can also combine several products in this step. For example, I like to use the BHA peeling and the hyaluronic concentrate or vitamin C serum in the evening. And in the morning the niacinamide serum and the hyaluronic concentrate. So you can see that the steps can be different in the morning and evening and that product combinations offer very versatile options. This is exactly what we mean when we talk about individual skin care that is geared to the needs of your skin. If you are not quite sure which of the serums is suitable for you, I recommend this article: Serums in skin careIn this category you will also find our ampoules and face masks. They may not be part of your layering routine every day, but they are just the thing for extended self-care sessions in the evening!
4. Layering step: Care
As you have already learned above, the hydrophilic products are followed by the lipophilic (i.e. fat-loving, oil-based) products. This step is therefore about creams and pure oils, but also eye care. The best way to apply these is to first apply them to the particularly thin and sensitive eye area by gently patting them in or "rolling" them in with the hyaluronic eye gel. Then comes the cream or oil for your facial care. Here, too, we have various creams to choose from. Retinal for mature skin or skin prone to blemishes, Hyaluron Cream Light or Medium as a moisturizer or the Hyaluron Cream Rich for more intensive care. If you would like to know which facial oil is ideal for you, take a look at this magazine article .5. Layering step: Protect
Admittedly, this step is really only for daytime use. But that makes it all the more important. Sun protection, sun protection, sun protection. We never tire of emphasizing that a sufficiently high sun protection factor (usually 30+) is the best way to protect the skin from UV damage and other sun-related effects for as long as possible. So don't forget the sunscreen, please!Individualize your skin care – with targeted products for your skin
Do I really need all of this? Only you can give a suitable answer to this question. Because you know yourself and your skin best. The layering principle gives you good support for combining active ingredients in different steps. How you ultimately want to put together your care is entirely up to you. And that's the beauty of it. It couldn't be more individual.
