  • Stopping the pill – a liberating experience for me

In recent years, more and more women have decided to stop taking the pill and I was one of them. That's why I know the feeling afterwards all too well, I know the ups and downs and, above all, I know the problems with the skin!

For me, stopping taking the pill was like a small liberation. A kind of liberation from an invisible prison that I wasn't even aware of. Constant mood swings, a bad feeling and negative moods were a part of me for a long time.

Then I started studying pharmacy and the more I studied hormones and how they work, the more skeptical I became about this form of contraception. I learned how sensitive and at the same time how important the hormonal system is for our body. It also became increasingly clear to me how much it influences our mood and our entire being.

Was I perhaps not such a "muted" person as I always thought?

For a while I fought against the inner resistance that I felt every time my alarm clock tried to remind me to take the little pill. Until I just didn't want to do it anymore.

At the end of a pack of pills, I simply decided to let my pill break become the end of the pill. That was 6 years ago now.

You don't have to have had acne before...

I noticed the change pretty quickly and so did my skin! Spots appeared and there were quite a few of them. My hairline, back and shoulders were particularly affected. This again shows that you must not have had acne before taking the pill! I did n't know that about my skin! This was completely new territory for me and I have to admit, it really shocked me.

Although acne is more likely to return after you stop taking the pill if you have had it before, it does not mean that you are protected from blemishes if you were spared before.

So I speak from experience! That's why I'm giving you a tip right at the start: Be patient! Be patient with yourself, with your body and your hormone levels. It will get better! But it takes time and can take longer than a year. At least that's how it was for me.

I'm saying this so bluntly, not to discourage you, but to encourage you! So that you know that it's normal if it takes longer or has a greater effect on you than on your friends who have also stopped taking the pill!
Everyone reacts differently and so things can go one way or the other for you. It is important to know that there are a few things you can do to master the transition to a “normal” hormonal balance.

After all, we now know what these “unspeakable” hormones can do to us! Mood swings are inevitable for most of us! As if that wasn’t enough, they also turn the controls on our skin and can make us blossom in a completely different way.

The causes of pimples after stopping the pill

  • Hormones
  • stress
  • wrong diet
  • Colon
  • immune system
  • I have deliberately included the factor of stress in the circle, as it plays a very important role in the topic of health nowadays!

When impurities “adorn” our body, it is usually due to hormones. Of course, stopping taking the pill has a particularly negative effect on this sensitive system and we are in trouble.

In addition to all the other types of pills that also interfere with our hormone balance, I would particularly like to highlight the so-called anti-androgenic pills. These are the pills that, in addition to being contraceptive, also advertise beautiful skin and beautiful hair! They reduce testosterone levels. Testosterone is also a very important sex hormone in women (yes, that's why sexual disinterest is not uncommon in women who take the pill! Not something we really want!)

If we suddenly remove this dampener from the body, testosterone levels will shoot up until the hormones regulate each other again and come into balance.

Until then, the high testosterone level stimulates sebum production, bacteria and germs feel more comfortable on the skin and pimples form. This is why men are more prone to acne!

Other causes of impurities are hormones, stress, poor nutrition and our metabolism. I always find it a bit difficult to look at these things separately. For me, everything is connected.

In my opinion, a holistic view of our body and the circumstances we find ourselves in is the most important step to really get rid of impurities! And of course other problems too! :)
Stress disrupts our hormones and an unhealthy diet also affects the health of our intestines, which then also affects our hormone balance.

As you can see, our entire body is a very complex combination of different systems that mesh together like gears. This of course makes it a little complicated to find the perfect solution and to promise a universally applicable miracle cure. At the same time, it is incredibly exciting.

With the experience I have gained through my work in the pharmacy, contact with customers and also with my own skin, I would like to give you my 8 most valuable tips that can help you create the right roadmap for you.

I assume that you have already stopped taking the pill. If you are not sure whether this is the right thing for you, then it is best to consult your gynecologist!

My 8 tips to avoid pimples after stopping the pill

    1. Ensure regular but gentle cleaning

To remove bacteria's breeding ground and dirt from your skin, gentle cleansing is essential.

Mild sugar surfactants and cleansing oils do this in the best possible way. Namely, without burdening the skin's acid mantle. For clear and radiant skin, this should be intact! For such a cleansing, you can use the Cleansing oil or that cleaning gel use equally.

For a few minutes of mental relaxation and well-being for your skin, you can Clay Mask It has an anti-inflammatory effect, regulates sebum production and frees the skin of dead skin cells. For a small peeling effect, you can massage the mask in with moistened hands after the exposure time and then wash it off with warm water.

The Azelaine Serum takes care of impurities and at the same time has a mattifying effect against oily shine. Our breakout-breakthrough!

    2. Avoid touching your face

You've probably heard this tip a thousand times. As difficult as it is to implement, it's also important. Because if we constantly fiddle around with our fingers on our face, we're just spreading the unwanted guests and germs around our face.

The same goes for squeezing pimples. Don't do it! I know how hard that is. But most of the time you'll just make it worse, injure the skin, and cause even deeper inflammation and scarring.

If you are really struggling with stubborn underlayers, I advise you to visit a beautician!

    3. Antioxidants – Strengthen your skin barrier

Strengthen your skin barrier and support it with the help of antioxidants such as vitamin C or E. They also protect the skin from external influences and oxidative stress and thus prevent the formation of further blemishes!

    4. Fruit acids – tackle impurities

Even if fruit acids are new to you, it's worth taking a look. Salicylic acid in particular, also known as BHA (beta-hydroxy acid), penetrates the skin well due to its fat solubility, removes dead skin cells and ensures that excess sebum can drain away more easily. In combination with AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids), the so-called chemical peeling works against impurities and even against the first signs of skin aging.

    5. Avoid industrial sugar and dairy products – nutrition is key

As you can see from my graphic, nutrition and especially a healthy gut play a very important role in the appearance of your skin! There is even a direct connection between the gut and the skin. If you are interested in these connections in more detail, then let me know. But that would go beyond the scope of this post. :)

Nevertheless, we know that a healthy and balanced diet has a significant impact on our vitality and therefore also on our skin. If we eat a lot of industrial sugar or dairy products, this can put a strain on our intestines and lead to so-called silent inflammations. These, in turn, limit our immune system and promote blemishes.

So it's best to reduce your intake of these foods. Instead, eat more anti-inflammatory foods like green vegetables, berries, ginger and many more.

    6. Take zinc orally – strengthen your immune system

For me, it's an absolute insider tip. In addition to a healthy diet, zinc is a great nutritional supplement that supports your immune system and has an anti-inflammatory effect at the same time. Make sure you choose preparations that are natural and organic!

    7. Protect your skin from sun damage – UV protection is worth its weight in gold!

I think I'll always include it - UV protection. It can't be said often enough! Regardless of skin type, but especially for blemished skin, protection from the sun is very important. Just to avoid dark spots and to strengthen the skin barrier. Sunscreen is important, every day!

    8. Practice patience – relaxation and inner balance make everything easier

Finally, I would like to repeat my tip from the beginning.

It's so important! Because I think the worst thing about the whole situation is when you fight it internally. When you focus on the fact that you simply DON'T want the blemishes. This internal stress and pressure only fuels the cycle further.

That's why I would like to encourage you to try to find a way to lovingly accept your body's reactions. After all, you now understand a little better where they come from and that it is a natural process that you go through together with your body.

Meditate, go for a walk and patiently give yourself the time you deserve to get back to normal mode. After all, your system has lived with the foreign hormones (often for years).

    An overview

It is very important for me to say at the end that everything in the body is of course much more complex than I have presented here. I just want to show you which areas are involved and where you can take a closer look - so to speak, an overview of where you can find the adjustment screws that will lead you to radiant and healthy skin. Even if you are struggling with hormonal fluctuations and blemished skin regardless of whether you stop taking the pill!

I really hope that my tips help you to get your blemishes under control! Hang in there! You are not alone, you know that you can do something about it and you know the reasons behind it.
