Beautiful skin despite mask requirement
by Redaktion
Cell phone, keys, wallet - and mask! The corona pandemic has changed a lot. Even the final check before leaving the house. Whether shopping, in designated zones in cities, on public transport or at work - not much happens without mouth and nose protection. In order to reduce the risk of droplet infections, the face mask is considered an important component in containing the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
Most of us have long since gotten used to wearing a mask. For many, the few social contacts are more difficult to get used to. Simply celebrating with friends, a nice dinner, a warm hug. Ah! But together we can do it. This special time also offers the opportunity to reflect on what is really important to us and perhaps to make a few adjustments that will clear the way to happiness. A personal software update, so to speak.
The skin under corona stress
Our skin is also now happy about a care update, because while the obligation to wear a mask has long since become normal for us, our skin is being put to the test. Sometimes it reacts with stress and expresses its discomfort with redness, pimples or dry patches.
Dry heating air and cold outside temperatures make them even more sensitive.
As soon as the temperatures drop, the sebaceous glands go into hibernation, so to speak, and only work on a reduced level. So that your skin can get through the Corona period safely or existing skin problems can be specifically alleviated, I would like to give you valuable tips on caring for your skin during the Corona pandemic. Let's get started!
- If the face mask irritates the skin
- Hygiene check for face and mask
- Skin care in Corona times
- Mask acne – bye, bye, maskne
- Reduce stress levels, boost glow
1. If the face mask irritates the skin
If a face mask is worn regularly and over a longer period of time - for example in care and medical facilities or shops - a mouth and nose covering can encourage the development of skin problems. While the so-called community masks are usually only worn for a short time and allow a certain amount of air circulation thanks to their loose fit, tight-fitting protective masks such as FFP-2 and FFP3 masks in particular put strain on the skin.
These special masks, intended for medical personnel, fit tightly to the face and are intended to reduce the risk of infection for others and for oneself.
low. Since hardly any fresh air gets in, breathing out and speaking creates a warm, humid climate under the mask.
If the skin is exposed to this high level of moisture over a long period of time, the stratum corneum can swell and the lipids that sit like cement between the horny cells can dissolve. This disrupts the intact skin barrier. The result: the skin can dry out and pathogens or chemical substances have an easy time penetrating the skin.
In addition, the material of respiratory masks such as FFP2 and FFP3 is harder than that of conventional fabric masks. Friction and pressure can cause skin irritation or even contact eczema.
But community masks made of skin-friendly cotton or light surgical masks can also be harmful to the skin. In addition to the length of time the mask is worn each day and the individual skin condition, hygiene also plays an important role. Bacteria and germs can quickly settle on the mask.
If the mask is moistened by the air we breathe after wearing it for a long time, it provides an ideal breeding ground for pathogens. By frequently putting the mask on and taking it off with hands that have not been thoroughly washed or disinfected, pathogens can also be transferred from the fingers to the mask.
2. Hygiene check for face and mask
To prevent the mask from becoming a breeding ground for germs and causing pimples or infections, it must be washed or replaced regularly. Therefore, the following applies to mouth and nose coverings:
- After wearing the face mask, wash it in the washing machine at 60 degrees or boil it in a pot
- To put the mask on and take it off, use the rubber tabs on the sides instead of pulling it off the face by the fabric
- Dispose of disposable masks in the appropriate trash and replace them with a new mask.
Daily facial cleansing is another important aspect. In order not to irritate the skin further and to gently remove sebum, make-up and dirt particles, mild cleansing products without potentially irritating or drying ingredients such as perfume or alcohol are essential.
Junglück's cleansing oil with seven valuable plant oils and mild sugar surfactants cleanses the skin particularly gently. It does not dry it out, does not affect its pH value and does not clog the pores. Our cleansing oil is also ideal for all skin types, even oily skin. It combines with excess sebum and fat on the skin. When washed off, it gently removes dirt - "like dissolves like" is the principle of the popular Oil Cleansing Method (OCM).
Important: Hot water dries out the skin. So make sure you use body temperature when washing your face and showering! This will also benefit nature and your utility bills. A clear win-win situation!
After the pampering facial cleansing comes the beauty boost. The refreshing rose water from Junglück invigorates and tones the skin after facial cleansing. The finest essences from Bulgarian Damascus roses from controlled organic cultivation regulate sebum production. Vitamin C ensures that the pores contract and the skin appears finer and more even. B vitamins as well as plant-based tannins and fiber nourish and strengthen the skin - and the hair too. The balancing rose water is naturally alcohol-free and contains no artificial fragrances.
Our rose water works:
- antibacterial
- anti-inflammatory
- sebum regulating
- astringent (pore-constricting)
- moisturizing
- soothes thanks to natural rose scent
This makes it a very good choice for the daily care of impure skin or for acute pimples that have appeared, for example, in the chin and cheek areas caused by the mask. You can find out more about so-called mask acne in the text below. You can use the rose water as a toner every day after cleansing your face or spray it onto your face as needed to give your skin and senses a fresh kick. Simply close your eyes, spray once and let yourself be enchanted by the fragrant rose water mist. We love it!

3. Skin care in Corona times
In winter, the skin usually needs a richer cream than in the warmer seasons. However, wearing a face mask can mean that it has special needs. That's why we should remain as flexible with skin care as we have to be when implementing the many new Corona rules. This means that your skin on your cheeks, chin and between your nose and mouth may need different care than on your forehead and eyes.
In general, we aim to strengthen the skin by using mild but effective products to support it in its daily work of warding off pathogens and harmful substances. For this reason, Junglück products contain few high-quality ingredients and respect the skin's natural acid mantle.
If your skin is acutely irritated, burning, itching and flaky, it needs soothing and balancing care that will bring it back into balance. Our Hyaluron creams contain Hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and various oils.
-
- Aloe vera: provides intensive moisture, has a calming and anti-inflammatory effect
- Argan oil: keeps the skin supple and the pores clear, is non-comedogenic
- Glycerin: has a moisturising effect
At night, the Hyaluron Cream Rich the skin during regeneration. For dry skin or particularly dry areas, this care product is also ideal for your morning routine.
If your skin is suffering greatly from the moisture build-up under the mask, I would like to recommend Junglück's water-free baby balm. Trick 17, so to speak! The balm with organic calendula and organic almond oil forms a thin protective film on the skin and acts as a delicate barrier between the moist air you breathe out and the skin. This prevents the skin from swelling and the resulting loss of moisture and fat. It also offers optimal protection against the cold and can be applied thinly to particularly dry areas before a walk in the bitterly cold winter air.
Be careful with rosacea: the chronic inflammatory skin condition can also worsen when wearing the face mask. Light and moisturizing skin care products such as our rose water and aloe vera gel relieve accompanying symptoms such as papules, pustules and redness and can also be used for acute flush reactions.
4. Mask acne – bye, bye, maskne
If blemishes are caused by wearing a face mask and not by excessive keratinization of the top layer of skin, the skin should not be dried out under any circumstances. On the contrary: with so-called maskne (a play on the words mask and acne), the skin wants to be treated with velvet paws. It longs for soothing, anti-inflammatory, strengthening active ingredients and an extra dose of moisture - and for regular breaks from the mouth and nose protection.
Junglück favorites and care habits to treat maskne gently but effectively:
- Cleansing oil or Cleansing gel – gentle but deep cleansing without drying out
- Rose water – a soothing kick of freshness for in-between times
- Zinc facial toner – has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects
- Aloe Vera Gel – moisturizes face, body and hair
- Niacinamide Serum – has an antimicrobial, regenerating effect and also strengthens the skin’s protective barrier for a balanced complexion
- hyaluronan Cream – gives your skin the rich nutrients it needs
- Clay Mask – For the 3-in-1 effect: relaxation, gentle peeling and anti-inflammatory effect
- Pimple paste – for targeted care of pimples and promoting the healing process
- Follow hygiene tips when wearing masks
- Remove the mask as often as possible and let the skin breathe
- Do not feel your face for new pimples
- Avoid wearing makeup under the mask
If you have oily skin that literally explodes under the mask, it is important to pay particular attention to hygiene measures and to provide it with plenty of moisture. Hello, hyaluronic concentrate! In addition to hyaluronic acid, it contains pentylene glycol, which inhibits bacteria and germs, and anti-inflammatory aloe vera. Cleansing oil, rose water and the fresh hyaluronic cream for drier skin areas round off the anti-stress program for your skin perfectly.
5. Reduce stress levels, boost glow
Speaking of anti-stress: you can support your skin from the inside out with a healthy and balanced diet with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit and sufficient fluid intake. Stress and lack of sleep? Get rid of it. Relaxation through exercise in the fresh air, relaxation exercises such as yoga, autogenic training or progressive muscle relaxation and good sleep hygiene with set bedtimes, fresh air but no smartphone in the bedroom? Bring it on! If the skin does not improve after a few days, it is advisable to have a dermatologist take a look at your skin. Better safe than sorry.
I hope that these care recommendations for beautiful and healthy skin will support you on your way to a radiant complexion despite the mask requirement. I would like to give you a little encouragement along the way. Just as your skin will regenerate with proper care, the Corona crisis will also come to an end.
And maybe then - and I wish this for everyone - we will go through this adventure called life more mindfully, lovingly and gratefully. More mindful of ourselves, of our fellow human beings and of our beautiful blue planet and all its inhabitants. With that in mind: I wish you a wonderful and contemplative Christmas season and of course the most radiant, beautiful and healthiest skin ever. Stay healthy!
