WEIL HILFE ZÄHLT.

BECAUSE HELP COUNTS.

by Svenja Weber

We are currently seeing in many parts of Germany what climate ignorance and land densification can do. With our donation of 6,000 euros to Aktion Deutschland hilft , we are trying to do our part to support the people there. If you like, you can help too. We have set up a simple donation function in our checkout for this purpose. Simply choose your amount and we will forward 100% of your donation to Aktion Deutschland hilft.

It's almost ironic that July 29th is Earth Overshoot Day. The day on which we have used up all of the earth's natural resources that can be replenished within a year. This day symbolizes our enormous need for resources, the waste of these resources and the man-made climate change that goes with it.

Suddenly it is so close, climate change.

We have known for a long time that it is not happening at some point in time, somewhere – climate change is already here. HERE AND NOW. In Germany too. We have been feeling it for years through extreme weather events such as storms, heat, drought, heavy rain and the floods that often accompany them. However, few of us probably had enough imagination for the catastrophic extent that was seen last week in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. Flooded places, collapsed houses, torn-away roads, 175 people who lost their lives and many are still missing. Thousands of people have lost their homes and their livelihoods. We have only previously seen this type of destruction caused by natural disasters in other parts of the world such as Japan, Indonesia or the Caribbean.

When it comes to the topic of the climate crisis, tipping points are often mentioned. These are crucial, critical thresholds in climate change. When these are reached, the climate can change abruptly and irreversibly - with unpredictable effects. The six defined tipping elements include thawing permafrost, deforestation and fires in the primeval forests and the melting of the Arctic sea ice. We have already exceeded some of these six climate tipping points. Nobody knows when the remaining tipping points will be reached - so we must prevent them.

But there are tipping points not only for the climate, but also in our society. After a catastrophe like last week, the question arises: have we now reached a societal tipping point? Will the experiences from the flood disaster be a wake-up call to finally take climate change as seriously as it needs to be in this country? Crises are always a turning point and show us what is really important to us. Often it is only then that we begin to act to protect precisely that which means so much to us.

For us at JUNGLÜCK it is clear: we want to help. On the one hand, with our donation to " Aktion Deutschland hilft " and on the other hand through our economic activities, where sustainability is our top priority.

Update: We are incredibly happy about the success of the campaign! For a limited period of time, a donation amount could be selected when checking out of the order process. Our customers donated a total of €4,771.79. Together with our share of €6,000 , we hope to help those affected by the flood disaster rebuild their lives and overcome this traumatic time together with " Aktion Deutschland hilft ". The organization takes care of solar-powered street lighting, equipment with which the buildings can be drained, tidied and cleaned. Helpers distribute food, water, hygiene products and lamps, clear away rubble and plan the reconstruction of facilities and houses. People are given tetanus vaccinations to prevent diseases. Children are given holiday camps to give them some joy and security. Homeless people and senior citizens are looked after, psychosocial counseling is offered and everything that can be done is done in every nook and cranny. We are all the more pleased that the donation we have collected together is making a real difference for the local people. And for that we would just like to say THANK YOU!
