Your care change to natural cosmetics

by Lena Severin

Switching from conventional to natural cosmetics is not always easy. The best thing is that you are doing something good for your skin in the long term.

It is particularly important to us to impart knowledge about your own skin, its functions and needs and to make it possible for you to find the perfect products for your skin.

Whether you are already using your new cosmetics or are still thinking about changing your routine, here are some good answers to possible questions for you:
  1. When does it make sense to switch from conventional to natural cosmetics?
  2. How long does it take for the skin to get used to natural care?
  3. What is the best way to switch from conventional to natural skin care?
  4. Can there be initial worsening after the change?
  5. Dry skin after switching to natural cosmetics?

1. When does it make sense to switch from conventional to natural cosmetics?

As a company that produces pure cosmetics, we are not completely unbiased when it comes to answering this question. Of course, we want to get as many people as possible to think about their own skin and its needs. This is the only way we can all understand what good care should include and what we should avoid putting on our skin.

The skin is our external protective shield. It fends off bacteria, viruses and germs, helps to regulate our body temperature and stabilize our moisture levels. It is constantly exposed to various environmental influences that put strain on it. Heat, cold, humidity, sunlight and air purity are just a few factors that pose challenges to our largest organ.

Ingredients such as sulfates, silicones or paraffins in cosmetics only put additional strain on the skin instead of actually caring for it. That is why it is so important that we understand exactly how the individual active ingredients in the care products work, what benefits they have for the skin and, above all, how they support it.

Therefore, switching from conventional to natural cosmetics, but above all to an individually tailored routine, is a good idea at any time.

2. How long does it take for the skin to get used to natural care?

If you have just started using your new skin care product, be patient until you notice a difference. Getting used to it can sometimes take a whole regeneration cycle. A skin cycle lasts around 28 days, but it gets longer as you get older.

The skin renews itself through the constant formation of new basal cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis. You can see this process clearly in the graphic. The cells above the basal cells are continually pushed upwards through renewal. When they reach the surface of the skin, the cells are then dried out and form the horny layer before they are finally shed. It may sound a bit disgusting at first, but it is completely natural.

3. What is the best way to switch from conventional to natural skin care?

The changeover works best if you gently get your skin used to the new care. The best way to do this is to gradually introduce the product, especially for sensitive and stressed skin. It is important that you use the products regularly and avoid any additional irritating products.

If you use active ingredients, such as one of our serums or fruit acid peels, use them 1-3 times a week to start with so that your skin can slowly get used to them. You shouldn't rush into it, especially if you have no previous experience with active ingredients in your skin care.
The BHA or AHA peeling helps your skin to regenerate faster because the dead skin layer can be removed more quickly.

4. Can there be an initial worsening after the change?

Is your skin reacting to the new care product with blemishes? If you have had severe blemishes or acne before, your skin may initially look worse. But don't worry and be patient. This could be because the new active ingredients you are using are accelerating your skin renewal. This is how "hidden pimples" come to the surface of the skin, because the skin basically cleanses itself first. Redness, feelings of tightness or peeling of the skin are also side effects of new, active ingredients. This initial worsening can occur particularly with retinal due to the boosted effect in the skin. Observe your skin and give it a little time to get used to the new care product. If you are unsure whether you can tolerate the product, please contact our customer care team or a dermatologist.

5. Dry skin after switching to natural cosmetics?

Dry skin is usually caused by a weakened skin barrier and damaged connective tissue. This can be caused, for example, by sulfates and silicones in many conventional products. In the case of silicone in particular, the skin must first get used to care without the substance, because in a certain way the skin can become dependent on the protective silicone film. In principle, it replaces the skin's protective barrier, which is damaged underneath. One of the consequences of this is that water-soluble active ingredients can penetrate deeper layers of the skin more quickly and cause irritation there.
So if you switch your skin to natural cosmetics and it thanks you with dry patches, care for it with products that strengthen the skin's protective barrier and provide it with moisture. The calendula facial toner and the hemp oil mask support the skin in doing just that. And with the rosehip seed oil you boost regeneration and help the skin to retain moisture at the same time.

So the motto for your switch to natural cosmetics is patience, patience, patience. Don't change your entire routine from one day to the next, slowly get your skin used to each individual product and give it time to accept the effect and wean itself off the previous conventional ingredients.
